Oman Issues Tender for Green Hydrogen Power Generation Project Consultancy Services

Nama Power and Water Procurement Company has launched a competitive bidding process seeking specialized consultancy services for a groundbreaking green hydrogen-based power generation project in Oman. The state-owned utility company issued a Request for Proposal on May 4 2026 calling for techno-economic consultancy services to support project development and feasibility assessment.

The tender represents a significant milestone in Oman’s renewable energy strategy as the country works to establish itself as a regional leader in green hydrogen production and utilization. PWP which serves as the single procurer of power and water capacity across the Sultanate is responsible for ensuring sufficient electricity production to meet growing national demand through economically viable solutions.

Interested bidders must submit their proposals by June 21 2026 at 12:00 PM Oman time. The submission requirements include providing a tender bond or bank-certified cheque worth at least 1% of the total tender value with validity extending 120 days beyond the submission deadline. This financial guarantee ensures serious commitment from participating consultants.

The consultancy services will focus on evaluating both technical and economic feasibility aspects of the hydrogen-powered generation facility. The selected consultant will provide crucial support during early-stage project development and assist decision-making processes as Oman advances its green hydrogen initiatives.

This tender aligns with Oman’s broader Vision 2040 objectives and the national commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The country has established Hydrom as its central green hydrogen orchestrator which has already awarded multiple large-scale projects worth billions of dollars to international consortiums.

Oman aims to produce 1 million to 1.25 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 rising to 7.5 million to 8.5 million tonnes by 2050. The sultanate leverages its abundant solar and wind resources along with strategic geographic positioning between major hydrogen demand centers in Europe and Asia.

The green hydrogen power generation project represents integration of renewable hydrogen technology into Oman’s existing electricity grid infrastructure. This approach demonstrates the country’s commitment to diversifying energy sources while maintaining grid stability and reliability for industrial and residential consumers.

PWP has emphasized that this project marks a crucial step toward incorporating hydrogen into the national power generation portfolio. The initiative supports Oman’s ambitions to become a major exporter of green hydrogen and its derivatives while simultaneously meeting domestic energy security requirements.

The successful consultant will work closely with PWP’s technical teams and provide comprehensive analysis covering project economics technological options and implementation strategies. This collaboration will help establish the foundation for future green hydrogen power projects across the sultanate as the country accelerates its energy transition programs.
