Spanish Renewable Energy Giant MASPV Partners with Shanghai Shaanyao Group for 1000 Million Euro Green Hydrogen Initiative in Spain

Spanish renewable energy company MASPV has announced a major partnership with Chinese firm Shanghai Shaanyao Group to develop a portfolio of green hydrogen projects in Spain worth over 1000 million euros. The collaboration also includes renewable energy company Eontsing as part of the strategic alliance.

The partnership was formalized during recent meetings in Spain where Roger Dejun president of Shanghai Shaanyao Group traveled to advance the structuring of green hydrogen projects within their development portfolio. The collaboration combines Asian technological and industrial capabilities with MASPV’s national expertise in the clean energy sector.

Angel Luis Serrano Global CEO of MASPV Group emphasized the significance of the partnership stating that green hydrogen represents a top-tier industrial and economic opportunity for Spain and Europe. The companies are building a solid industrial platform that integrates development technology and financial capacity to execute real projects in the Spanish market.

MASPV a Madrid-headquartered company founded in 2014 specializes in renewable energy solutions and reports having more than 500MW of installed capacity worldwide. The company operates internationally with offices in China through its Hong Kong holding company and maintains operations in Beijing focusing on photovoltaic solar energy projects for industrial and commercial applications.

The partnership comes at a time when Spain is positioning itself as a key destination for green hydrogen investment. The Spanish government has announced plans for green hydrogen to meet 74 percent of the country’s industrial hydrogen demand by 2030 and has increased its installed electrolyzer capacity target to 12GW. Spain’s strategic location and strong wind and solar resources make it particularly attractive for renewable energy investments.

The project portfolio is primarily focused on Andalusia particularly in Huelva where representatives from Shanghai Shaanyao recently participated in the III National Green Hydrogen Congress. During their visit the delegation maintained an institutional agenda with the Andalusian Regional Government provincial authorities and the Port of Huelva to advance the technical logistical and industrial definition of the projects.

Roger Dejun highlighted Spain’s favorable conditions for green hydrogen development noting the country’s solid regulatory framework industrial capacity and clear institutional commitment. Through the partnership with MASPV the Chinese firm has been able to analyze specific and advanced projects allowing them to evaluate investment opportunities with a clear long-term vision.

The collaboration represents a milestone in MASPV’s internationalization strategy and consolidates the Spanish company as a key player in channeling Asian investment toward strategic clean energy projects in Spain. The projects are scheduled for execution in 2026 with an aggregate volume exceeding 1000 million euros.

Spain has taken a more open approach to Chinese participation in green hydrogen compared with other European Union countries where concerns have been raised about protecting domestic industry. Chinese companies including Hygreen Energy and Envision have also announced plans to establish several gigawatts of electrolyzer manufacturing capacity in Spain.

The meetings between MASPV and Shanghai Shaanyao allowed both companies to delve deeper into the logistical industrial and regulatory definition of the projects under development advancing their integration within the platform being structured in Spain. This partnership reflects the growing trend of international collaboration in the renewable energy sector as countries work toward achieving their decarbonization goals.

The initiative aligns with Spain’s broader renewable hydrogen strategy which aims to position the country as a renewable hydrogen exporting nation of Europe in the medium to long term. With abundant sunshine and windy locations Spain is well-suited for green hydrogen plants that can support both domestic industrial needs and export opportunities to other European markets.
